Welcome to Dissertation Camp! I'm looking forward to working with you. I've been a prof. in the Rhetoric Dept and a Writing Center director for 25+ years. In my recent research I've been using writing center data, as well as my own second language learning experiences to illustrate and explore concepts in second language writing and more recently second language acquisiion.
In Camp, I'll be revising and updating an article that was accepted for publication about my processes learning Spanish creative writing vs. (extremely) elementary Chinese in relation to the controversy about multilingualism vs. translingualism. I wrote a preliminary version of this article in our first Camp two years ago.
I also like to write creative non-fiction, especially about travel, and have taught a first-year seminar in travel writing every fall for more than a decade. I plan on writing new essays this summer (I'm taking a weekend Summer Writng Festival course in June), and in preparation, I will be mining last summer's travel journal for themes and material and freewriting during our Camp. My essay about a trip to Cuba that I drafted during the Camp two years ago was recently accepted by an online bilingual literary journal.
